Ambiance is Everything: Lighting Your Winter Gatherings with Solar

Winter parties move outdoors for fire pits and star-gazing. The right lighting sets the mood without the hassle of extension cords across a frozen lawn.
Build Lighting “Layers”:
Overhead/String Lights: Drape solar bistro string lights with large, clear bulbs over the seating area. Hang them high and in a south-facing direction to charge.
Accent/Path Lighting: Use solar-powered lanterns (real flame-look LED ones are great) clustered on side tables and along the path to the fire pit.
Focal Point: Place a few solar spotlights in the bushes to uplight trees or a feature, creating depth.
The Pre-Party “Sun Charge”: On the day of your gathering, take all your portable solar lanterns and lay them in the sunniest spot available. Give them a full afternoon of direct sun, even if it’s cold. They’ll enter the evening at 100%.
Have a Non-Solar Backup: Always keep a box of battery-operated fairy lights or LED candles in the garage. If it’s been a miserably cloudy week, these can save your ambiance without any last-minute stress. Mix them in with your solar pieces.
