Hack Your Solar Lights for Better Winter Performance (A DIY Project)

Project 1: The Battery Upgrade (Easy)
Crack open the light’s housing. Often, the battery compartment can fit a larger 18650 lithium-ion cell (the kind in old laptop batteries) with a little creative wiring and a basic TP4056 charging module. This triples the capacity. Project 2: The Remote Panel Mod (Intermediate)
Desolder the tiny solar panel from a pathway light. Extend the wires with 22-gauge outdoor cable. Mount the original light housing where you want the glow, and run the wires to a new, larger 6V solar panel (from Amazon) you’ve placed in full sun. Instant 500% more charging power.
